With the passion for off-road 4X4 challenge gaining popularity in Kenya, Rob Collinge incepted the Quattro Charge in 2001 to raise funds for Rhino Ark's Aberdare Fencing Project (see www.rhinoark.org for more info). Organized by Rob's Magic until the year 2011, the event was usually held at various challenging 4x4 locations on the outskirts of Nairobi. From 2012 onwards, new team of organizers took over the event management under a new name ATHI 4X4 CHALLENGE spearheaded by Gray Cullen (event organizer) with the support of Rob's Magic after Rob collinge retired from active duty of planning and organizing the event.
The Quattro Charge was an exciting, highly challenging off road competition in which competitors were required to navigate an obstacle course comprising a mix of wet and dry river beds, swamps, large deep dams, sheer climbs and oversized boulders. Competitors were to demonstrate that rare combination of skill, courage and finesse and sometimes outright lunacy to overcome the challenging course.
The close proximity of the event venue to Nairobi made it highly accessible to spectators, sponsors and competitors alike, and the event organizers endeavored to make the Quattro Charge a great outing with excellent catering and full bar facilities, children's bouncing castle, face painting etc.
The Quattro Charge also provided a great teaser for the more extreme annual Rhino Charge event www.rhinocharge.co.ke
Between 2001 to 2011 under Rob's Magic, the Quattro Charge raised over 15 Million Kenyan Shillings towards the Rhino Ark's Kitty. You can still pledge your support to this noble charity event via Gray Cullen on gray@fargo.co.ke or by calling him on +254 710 602218.
The first event organised by Gray Cullen was successfully held on 1st April 2012 at Athi Hopcraft ranch in Athi River, with John Kanyali taking the Experts category win without loosing a single point in any section. The Intermediate category was won by Alvin Mohamed .
